This Sunday evening – two historic firsts: Renée Fleming’s first Marschallin in Vienna and the first-ever live-streamed performance from the Vienna State Opera
This Sunday evening, the Vienna State Opera will inaugurate its ambitious live-streaming program with Der Rosenkavalier, featuring Renée's first appearances in her calling-card role of the Marschallin in the city where the opera is set. The fee-based live stream can be watched on computers and televisions connected to the internet. Viewers will be able to choose between two perspectives at any time: an overall view of the stage and a live-edited film of the opera. The live stream will be time zone delayed for acceptable starting times around the world. Viewers will also be able to receive subtitles on tablets or smartphones via a special app.

“Wherever Renée Fleming has sung the role of Marschallin… the audience has been virtually at the American soprano’s feet. Visitors to the State Opera can now see for themselves why this is so. Fleming’s Viennese debut in the role made it clear: such an intense, captivating Marschallin is rarely found today. Fleming sings and acts with elegeance and a deep knowledge of all facets of this character: noble, passionate, sad, mellow and always polished in the use of her vocal gifts. What arching lyricism, what gorgeous silver tones, what wonderful vocal nuances – Fleming leaves little to be desired.” – Kurier, October 21, 2013
