NASHVILLE, Tenn. (October 21, 2013) -- In 2009, rising country music star Sarah Darling spent days at her grandfather's hospital bedside as he battled a serious illness. A spiritual man, he comforted her greatest fear of him succombing to the fight by sharing his thoughts on the meaning of life, and what happens when someone leaves this world. Forever moved by what she heard in those precious moments, Darling later sat down with Nashville songwriters Dave Robbens andBilly Austen and wrote the song, "Knowing What I Know About Heaven," never knowing years later, internationally-known Christian recording artist and former lead singer of the Gaither Vocal Band, Guy Penrod, would make it be heard by millions around the world. In celebration of the song' success, Darling and Penrod will perform the song together as a duet for the very first time at the 2013 Inspirational Country Music (ICM) Awards on October 24, 2013. Penrod is nominated in the "Entertainer" category at the awards.
The poignant lyrics and standout message of life after death in "Knowing What I Know About Heaven," compelled Penrod to record the song, and include it on his top-selling debut solo album, Breathe Deep, which debuted at No. 2 on the Nielsen SoundScan Christian/Gospel-Christian retail chart. The song also became a concert-favorite, bringing comfort and hope about the afterlife to millions worldwide struggling with the difficult loss of a loved one.
"It will be an amazing honor for me to sing this song with Guy for the first time, especially since my grandfather has always loved his music," Darling said. "I have been very blessed and my grandfather was able to combat his illness, yet the wisdom he instilled in me that day will remain with me forever," she added. "Why on earth would we want to keep someone we love from their true home with the Lord? Though we miss their earthly presence, we must remember we will see them again, and they will be in a much happier place until that great day."
Darling said, "I'm thankful Guy has been able to inspire so many people through 'Knowing What I Know About Heaven.' It was a great honor to have him record it."
