I must preface this with the fact that just about anything Jeff Scott Soto does automatically gets a high score from me. His solo work and previous band efforts aside, W.E.T. is one of the better melodic rock acts to record. When the label matched these guys up for a record in 2009, it was a match made in heaven. How lucky for us that they decided to record and release a second effort on us, the rock community. "Walk Away" kicks this one off. What a great way to re-introduce the world to the band. The music is what we have come to expect from these musicians. Lead single "Learn to Live Again" is a great choice to help launch this project on the fans. The vocals are larger than life, the music is melodic as it gets, and the song is constructed perfectly. Don't forget to listen for the guitar solos in this track. "Rise Up" comes along and keeps the energy up. The music is played well - you can't deny the writing and playing ability of Erik Mårtensson (Guitars, Bass, Keyboards, Vocals) and Robert Säll:(Keyboards, Guitars) The song has a very cool breakdown and bridge that will have every air guitar player going crazy. "Love Heals" is a mellower track that has a cool vibe to it. The guitars have a different sound, but the vocals of Soto and the rest of the band are familiar when they kick in on the chorus. "What You Want" is a slice of melodic goodness. The music and vocals play well together and build from the intro to the monster chorus. "The Moment" opens with Soto's familiar voice and the guitars slam this into overdrive. The bridge and chorus are made for a live performance. the guitar work in the background is enough to be noticed without being overbearing.
"Bad Boy" starts up and takes no prisoners. The chugging guitar and vocals take charge and launch this song. The drumming here, by Robban Back is some of the best on the disc. "On The Run" is different yet the same for the band. It shows another dimension of the song writing and playing. The music is a little heavier in spots than what they have shown thus far on the disc. "Broken Wings" has the cool guitar work we are accustomed to and the vocals are spot on on this track. The chorus lifts the song up and keeps it from becoming bland. The lyrics on this track will really speak to you, if you give them a chance. "Shot" has a beautiful guitar intro that builds into a monster rock track. The keyboards kick in and take over. This song has all of those components that create a great W.E.T. song. The vocals, guitars, and keyboards mesh well to create a very special track that would be perfect for a live audience. "Still Believe In Us" is a great melodic ballad that adds depth to what the band has done on this disc. Disc closer "Still Unbroken" is a great way to bookend the disc. This song has all the pieces that make up a great song, sounding only like W.E.T. can. The guitars are utilized perfectly and paired up against the vocals without flaw. This also features one of the better solos on the disc. This disc isn't even out yet, and I can't wait for the next disc from these guys.
