NEWS: Slam Dunk Announces Fall Tour Opening for Built To Spill
Slam Dunk will return to the U.S. this fall to hit the road with Built To Spill in support of their critically acclaimed sophomore release, Welcome to Miami. The band will open on all tour dates kicking off in Salt Lake City on October 16. The tour will take them across the States hitting Denver, Atlanta, DC, Philly, New York, Boston, Dallas and more before wrapping up on November 27 where they started, in Salt Lake City. After a month off, they hit Portland, OR for three shows at the Mission Theater on December 29, 30 and 31.
The band also partnered up with CMJ to premiere the video for their latest single, "Fantasy." Zack Lamoureux directed, animated and created the video for the band. When asked what he was going for and how he made the video, Zack said "It took about a hundred hours. I was trying to make something kind of wild to match watching the band play live. My inspiration? A Monty Python vibe of the old Life Magazines."
The Victoria, BC based group released Welcome to Miami on November 13 via File Under: Music. To announce the release, they sat down with the folks at Noisey to premiere their first single, "Dying Breed" - a song Sound of Confusion says is "pretty irresistible and sticks in the memory". The band shot a video for the track and partnered with Paper Magazine to premiere. The video was directed by Jordan Minkoff, shot by Morgan Tams and features the band doing what they do best, having fun. Rolling Stone got on board the Slam Dunk train and premiered and offered a free download of a track from the album, "Horse Bumper". Welcome to Miami has seen a ton of other incredible coverage. In December they taped a Daytrotter session, which aired in March. The Vancouver Sun calls the album a "wondrous thing of beauty" and included the release in their "Best Albums of 2012". Absolute Punk claims Slam Dunk is "one of Canada's best-kept secrets."
