In 1986, MARTY FRIEDMAN and Jason Becker joined forces to form what would becomethe quintessential heavy metal shred duo in existence, Cacophony. Their debut album, "Speed Metal Symphony," would go on to be listed as one the "Top 10 All-Time Shred Albums" (Guitar World), while both guitarists would end up later joining platinum-selling acts (Megadeth for Friedman, the David Lee Roth band for Becker).

Around 1990, however, Becker was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), a crippling affliction that eventually robbed him of the ability to speak, walk or play guitar. His mind, however, was unaffected -- and over time, with the help of his father (who developed a system that helped Becker communicate via eye movement), he was able to resume composing music. (The 2012 documentary "Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet" chronicles his compelling story further.)

For the first time in over 25 years, Becker and Friedman recently wrote a song together -- "Horrors," a track that appears on FRIEDMAN's new solo album "Inferno" (out May 27), which he describes as "what Cacophony would be like had we continued to evolve." Check out a sneak preview of "Horrors" and exclusive commentary from FRIEDMAN about the collaboration below:
