May 30, 2014, NEW YORK -- Calling it "an exploration of the darker side of the human experience," Guitar World Magazine premieres Brooklyn singer-songwriter James Rotondi's "Howling at the Moon" video today (http://www.guitarworld.com/video-premiere-rotos-magic-act-howling-moon).

The evocative black-and-white feature was shot entirely in Super 8 film by up-and-coming NYC filmaker Adam Erick Wallace, who recently kent his talents to the Walking Shapes' "Woah Tiger" video. The "acoustic-driven track" also features drummer Matt Chamberlain (David Bowie, Tori Amos) and guitarist Joe Gore (Tom Waits, PJ Harvey).

Rotondi, aka Roto, former vocalist and multi-instrumentalist for French superstars Air and Mike Patton's Mr. Bungle, and guitarist for Reggie Watts' and Michael Shrieve's Trilon project, as well as NYC's The Cringe, released the 14-song album Into the Unknown, on May 13, on Volumnia Recordings. His band, Roto's Magic Act, is earning plaudits across the board for what the NY Observer's Mac Randall calls, "A Complete Work-catchy, slick (in a good way), intelligent and coherent, with influences ranging from Nick Drake to Big Star, the Eagles to Pink Floyd."

Into the Unknown echoes Roto's diverse influences, from Gram Parsons-style country rock to Jellyfish-approved power-pop to grand Pink Floyd-inspired opuses, with a focus on classic song-craft, and an artful production by veteran producer Bryce Goggin (Spacehog, Joseph Arthur). The record pays homage to the "continuous sound journey" aesthetic of 70s concept albums-with embedded sound effects and spectral voices between songs-but (hopefully) without all the prog-rock self-seriousness.

"I've always loved theatricality and a whiff of the occult in rock music," Roto explains, citing bands from The Doors to Nick Cave to Opeth as prime examples, "but my own take would be to add a bit more playfuness to that mix."
