Nick Mulvey, former founding member of Mercury Prize-nominated jazz collective, Portico Quartet, has already made huge waves in his native England as a solo performer.  With everyone from The Guardian, The Sun and Q Magazine giving his debut album, First Mind four stars and The Telegraph weighing in with 5 out 5 stars calling it a "mesmerizing debut...A lovely, rewarding record."

First Mind was a favorite not just among the critics but the fans as well, landing in the top 10 its first week out.  A sold-out UK tour followed along with a coveted spot on the BBC Sound of 2014Poll. This year has kicked off sweetly for Nick and on September 16th the journey continues when Harvest Records releases First Mind here in the states.

The album was produced by Dan Carey (Hot Chip, Steve Mason) and features Mulvey's exquisite guitar work, a blur of picked notes and offbeat, irregular timings.  Fans in New York & Los Angeles will be the first to hear Nick's beautifully delivered verse with the intricacies of his playing at several intimate gigs:

First Mind is an engrossing listen, and not easily defined. It encourages an open-mind (the 'First Mind' perhaps), and a sense of the worldliness that Nick poured into its making.

Nick Mulvey - Cucurucu

"Cucurucu" is an interpretation of DH Lawrence's poem, Piano, wrapped within a heady groove. And groove, for all its modern day baggage, is at the heart of everything Nick Mulvey does. "Nitrous," a song about a daydreamer selling laughing gas, positively radiates with a classic chug and groove when the bassline slinks in. There are contemplative moments too, "Fever to the Form" and "Meet Me There" are poignant odes, whilst "The Trellis" and "Juramidam" showcase that leftfield, Eastern-inflected guitar technique. It is a record that gets under your skin, and its sense of exploration is palpable.

Nick's EP, Fever To the Form is currently available digitally on Harvest Records and features the title track along with "House of Saint Give Me," "Juramidam" and "River Lea." The EP serves as a considerable primer to Nick Mulvey's growing catalogue of folk songs of dense, inspired guitar work.
