New York based (by way of Iran, Vienna & London) artist Rob Decoup releases his latest message in the song “War Hero” available today digitally.  From his forthcoming full-length album Rays of Sun, produced Mike Plotnikoff (Aerosmith, Buckcherry) to be released January 2015.

What transpired while making the video was pure coincidence and not by design.  "Although the song “War Hero” was originally written as a general anti-war song, I decided to dedicate the video to Ukraine and their quest to break free from Russian military oppression. Communism and the Soviet Union have fallen, but Russian imperialism has not. When I flew to Kiev to shoot the video I was excited to see firsthand the demonstrations and the fight for freedom and self-determination. After the video shoot, I flew back to New York confident that the Ukrainians would succeed in overthrowing the Yanukovich regime that took its orders from the Kremlin in Moscow. I felt honored to have seen them go to the streets and literally fight the government security forces and after a long struggle they finally took control of their own fate. The whole world raised their hands and cherished this victory of democracy and sovereignty. Finally Ukraine would be free. Right?...Wrong! As I write this now in July 2014, Russian soldiers continue to terrorize and a full scale invasion is still imminent.” Explains Rob

Global events impact the psyche of any conscious singer songwriter.  The musical psalms get written and recorded, taken on the road and shared with the fans. Rob has a band of local session players he gathers for gigs around Gotham and even for the occasional festival opportunity like the day they supported Iron Maiden at Topfest 2013 in Slovakia and hammered out an impressive 45 minute set to the delight of 30,000 central European metal heads. Last year, Rob also performed strong sets at the CMJ music conference in New York, in the Calvin Klein music lounge at Lollapalooza and just this past spring 2014, he impressed the tastemakers and jawbreakers at Austin’s SXSW.

For the upcoming album Rays of Sun, Decoup and producer Plotnikoff assembled a sturdy cast of players to realize the rhythm and urgency of his songs. “Eric Friedman from Creed is on guitar, Marty O’Brien from Lita Ford’s band plays bass, Phil X who replaced Richie Sambora as touring guitarist for Bon Jovi lays down some nice leads and Dan Welby did the basic drum tracks.” says Rob

Available now is Rob’s impressive four-song debut EP Pain produced by Viennese knob twirler, Rens Newland and re-mixed by Stuart Epps and Mike Plotnikoff.  Drummer Arejay Hale from the Grammy winning, Halestorm, makes a guest appearance to bash the skins.

Welcome to the brave new jungle of Rob Decoup. Fasten your seat belt; it’s going to be a fist pumping, thought-provoking trip.
