ENCINO, Calif. (Jan 30, 2015) - Kenny Chesney knew his soul needed more when it came to his music. He wanted to push the envelope, but not lose sight of the people who lived their lives like he did. In some ways, taking a year off the road to make a record was a risk; but with The Academy of Country Music giving “American Kids,” The Big Revival’s lead track, four nominations, the music he made in that time he didn’t tour made a difference.
“With two hooks, three rhythm scans and some of the most ingenious wordplay I’ve ever experienced, ‘American Kids’ is unlike anything I’ve ever heard,” Chesney marvels. “I knew it celebrates those people who lived life wide-open, colored outside the lines, thought more about life than they get credit for and have fun doing it.
“For the Academy of Country Music to recognize what I saw,” Chesney continues, “that makes me really happy -- and proud. Proud for Shane (McAnally), Luke (Laird) and Rodney (Clawson), all the guys who played on it or played it, Shaun (Silva) and his team for capturing the spirit of the song – and everybody out there who is living their life with that kind of joy.”
“American Kids” was nominated for Song, Single and Video of the Year. Chesney and Buddy Cannon are nominated as producers for Single of the Year.
The Big Revival has already spawned his 25th and 26th chart-toppers with the multiple-week #1 “American Kids” and “’Til It’s Gone.” The spirited video for “American Kids” was shot in an old school bus, painted for the video, all over Southern California during two days.
“Music captures people’s lives... small parts, moments that change everything – or stretch out to last your entire life. When I went in to make The Big Revival, I wanted to capture those things, but push the music. ‘American Kids’ was everything I was looking for: musically and rhythmically incredible, but the pictures painted are so real! No matter where you’re from, pieces of that song capture who you are, who you really are. And it doesn’t whitewash it, it says we’re ‘all a little messed up, but we’re all alright’.”
The 4-consecutive Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year – as well as 4-time Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year – takes his music back to the fans when he kicks off his 2015 The Big Revival Tour March 26th and 27th in Nashville. With 20 stadium plays, it’s going to be a long hot summer – but for the moment, the man The Wall Street Journal called “the King of the Road” celebrates “American Kids” for all they’re worth.
Kenny Chesney’s The Big Revival Tour is presented by Corona Lite and sponsored by Blue Chair Bay.
