Author/record promotion man Dave Morrell has seen rock and roll future - and it's rooted firmly in the past. 1974, to be precise. The year was a pivotal one in Manhattan's music scene: big bucks were being spent to market rock and pop stars while disco and punk simmered in the underground. The era has ignited the imaginations of directors Martin Scorsese and Baz Luhrmann, who are readying 2016 dramatic series based on the scene for HBO and Netflix respectively. But trendsetters are already feasting on Morrell's real-life tales about the high times of being Warner Bros. Records' 21-year-old promotion man in the Big Apple in 1974.

Within 24 hours of its release, 1974 The Promotion Man New York City climbed to No. 4 on Amazon's digital Music Business book chart while the print version jumped to No. 16 on the Music Business book chart. At 112 pages, 1974 The Promotion Man New York City is an ideal stocking stuffer or e-gift for any fan of music or 70s pop-culture. Find it now on Amazon.com in paperback and for Kindle.

'"1974 The Promotion Man New York City" offers an insider's view of the '70s," noted Examiner.com, which published an excerpt from the book to celebrate its release. "My favorite story...showing the 16mm film to John [Lennon]," said Ivan Kral of the Patti Smith Band. Kral's reference is to Chapter 14, which details how Dave and his friend Ron Furmanek were invited to John Lennon's apartment to screen some rare Beatles footage that Ron had acquired - and how Lennon reciprocated by playing them an unreleased Beatles recording while they all sat on his bed, getting high. Howie Edelson, United Radio Stations Radio Networks/PULSE Radio's head of Classic Rock and Classic Hits - as a well as the writer/producer of the nationally syndicated show, THE CLASSICS, said, "Loved every single page. Puts you right there...Cursed it being over - but what a KILLER ENDING."

Morrell's "1974" playlist, streaming now on Spotify, is a veritable time machine, evoking this eclectic musical era with cuts from Todd Rundgren, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Parliament, Joni Mitchell, Tower of Power, KISS, Gordon Lightfoot, America, The Doobie Brothers, each of the four Beatles' solo projects and many more artists - all of whom figure in the new book.

1974 The Promotion Man New York City picks up where Volume 1 - Morrell's high energy Horse-Doggin' - left off. After turning 21, Dave was plucked from a low-level job at the Warner-Elektra-Atlantic New Jersey warehouse, transferred to Manhattan and given a plum assignment as Warner Bros. Records' East Coast promotion man. Soon he found himself getting high with Ron Wood in the back of a limo between stops at radio stations, crossing English rock act Jethro Tull over to a mainstream pop radio audience with the smash hit "Bungle in the Jungle," breaking new artist Maria Muldaur despite concerns from radio stations that "Midnight At The Oasis" was too explicit, witnessing David Geffen have a meltdown at Dylan's Planet Waves listening party, introducing KISS to audiences with a Times Square kiss-a-thon judged by Kenny Rogers, getting Alice Cooper to speak at a PTA meeting and being whisked away to the Bahamas by Deep Purple, who had rented the Starship (a former United Airlines Boeing 720 jet), for an impromptu meet-and-greet with radio programmers.

Other highlights from 1974 The Promotion Man New York City include Morrell's eyewitness account of the final recording sessions for Lennon's Rock N Roll album at the Record Plant East and a private listening session at Electric Lady Studios, where Dave got a preview of new Jimi Hendrix tracks that the label later declined to release.

Morrell, hailed as "a Beatle-phile beyond reproach" by DISC & Digital Audio Technology, has been invited to join the panel of the next Record Theater event at the GRAMMY Museum on December 15. Hosted and created by Marvin Etzioni (musical director for "Uncle Vanya"  at the Anteaus Theater), The Record Theater's latest event will feature playback of The Beatles' Rubber Soul album in its entirety followed by a lively discussion moderated by Etzioni with guests Chris Carter (musician and "Breakfast with the Beatles host), author Brian Kehew and Morrell.

Dave will be a co-host with Howie Edelson and Stephen Bard on The Classics presents "FABCAST" - a new Beatles podcast from United Stations Radio Networks premiering soon. As a teen, Morrell held one of the first Beatles conventions in his bedroom of his parent's Kearny, NJ home - so it's only natural that he is pictured on the cover of the forthcoming book Legendary Locals of Kearny.

Maccazine hailed Horse-Doggin' - the first volume in Morrell's series - as "a must read" while Music Connection observed, "Morrell takes you along on his madcap, music-fueled true-life adventures." Morrell was a featured speaker at 2014's Beatlefest in Los Angeles and has spoken at two recent GRAMMY Museum events as part of the museum's celebration of the Beatles' 50th Anniversary in America.

About the Author: Legendary record company promotion man/author Dave Morrell still just thinks of himself as the luckiest fan alive. Growing up in Kearny, New Jersey in the early 1970s, he amassed a collection of Beatles memorabilia so unique that when John Lennon heard about it, he promptly asked to meet the teen. Dave's engaging combination of smarts and moxie put him in the right place at the right time - and, like an East Coast Cameron Crowe, soon he was rubbing shoulders with his musical heroes on a regular basis. Thanks to a tip from a friend, Morrell landed a job as the Assistant Stock Boy in the eight-track tape department at the Warner/Elektra/Atlantic (WEA) warehouse distribution center in New Jersey and began his journey from mega-fan to promo man. Horse-Doggin' and 1974 The Promotion Man New York City are the first two volumes in a series of books from The Morrell Archives that chronicle his remarkable adventures at such record companies as Warner Bros., RCA, Arista, Capitol and Geffen. Having relocated to Los Angeles, Morrell is now doing independent promotion for companies like 429 Records and Lakeshore Entertainment and cruising the California coast in his convertible.
