Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie is celebrating the end of an extraordinary year while also heralding an equally thrilling 2016.

This week’s announcement of top nominations for the upcoming 58th Annual GRAMMY® Awards saw the iconic band’s acclaimed 2015 album, “KINTSUGI,” nominated as “Best Rock Album” – their eighth overall nomination. The GRAMMY® Awards will be held on Monday, February 18th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS from 8-11:30 pm (ET/PT).

Death Cab for Cutie is wrapping up 2015 with a number of eagerly awaited live dates, culminating next week with a pair of sold out shows at Portland, OR’s Crystal Ballroom (December 16th and 17th). This follows on the heels of their high profile shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and 3 sold out nights in the band’s hometown of Seattle at the Paramount Theatre. Death Cab’s 2016 schedule will commence on January 21st-23rd with a series of performances at Peter Buck’s annual Todos Santos Music Festival in Todos Santos, Baja California, Mexico, benefitting the Palapa Society of Todos Santos, A.C. and other local charities. For festival tickets and additional information, please see www.todossantosmusicfestival.com.

From there, Death Cab for Cutie will head east for much anticipated shows in New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines, where they will headline Manila’s annual Wanderland Festival on March 5th. Next on the agenda will be a major Canadian co-headline tour alongside Metric. The “Lights On The Horizon” Tour gets underway March 19th at Montreal, QC’s Bell Centre and then travels through an April 1st finale at Vancouver, BC’s Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.

Death Cab for Cutie has also announced plans for headline performances at two top US summer festivals: Dover, DE’s Firefly Music Festival (June 16th-19th) and Louisville, KY’s Forecastle 2016 (July 15th-17th). Death Cab for Cutie’s eighth studio album, “KINTSUGI” made a remarkable chart debut upon its March 2015 release, debuting at #1 on Billboard’s “Top Alternative Albums” and “Top Rock Albums” charts, as well as #8 on the overall SoundScan/Billboard 200.

Recorded in Los Angeles with Rich Costey (Foster the People, Muse, Vampire Weekend, Chvrches) behind the board, “KINTSUGI” was welcomed with critical acclaim from all corners. “Inevitably elegiac,” praised Stereogum, “full of classic Death Cab structures and melodies, but with new little elements that still sets it apart. Synths and a rhythmic focus play a large role, but feel incorporated seamlessly into the band’s pre-existing aesthetic...” “A return to what made many fans fall in love with the group,” said NOISEY, while WYNC’s Soundcheck declared “KINTSUGI” to be “a classic Death Cab record, if such a thing exists. Over 11 tracks, lead singer and songwriter Ben Gibbard examines heartache, loss, absence – and dresses these themes in driving, occasionally soaring pop garb with impeccable sheen.” Perhaps Magnet summed it up best: “With the new ‘KINTSUGI,’ Death Cab might have made the best record of its 17-year career.”

Death Cab for Cutie currently features the core membership of singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard, bassist Nick Harmer, and drummer Jason McGerr augmented by new touring members Dave Depper (Menomena, Fruit Bats, Corin Tucker, Ray Lamontagne) and Zac Rae (My Brightest Diamond, Fiona Apple, Lana Del Rey, Gnarls Barkley), both of whom will contribute additional guitars and keyboards.

“Black Sun,” the first single from “KINTSUGI,” proved yet another multi-format success for the band, ascending to #1 at Triple A radio outlets nationwide as well as the top 5 at Modern Rock. The band’s second single, “The Ghosts of Beverly Drive” arrived this summer as the #1 most-added track at Modern Rock and currently sits at #4 on the chart.
