March 26, 2015 by  • What a killer song. In fact, of all the tunes the All Songs Considered crew inspected before we headed down to Austin for SXSW, "Colors," the debut single by Genevieve, was the team favorite.

Genevieve's official video for "Colors" furthers the song's message: Find pride in who you are. Watch as the Chicago singer (formerly of Company of Thieves) and her friends go through a Wizard of Oztransformation, from black and white to extravagant color.

Genevieve's debut EP, Show Your Colors, is out now, and features the production work of Ken Caillat (Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson), Ted Bruner (Kesha), Boots Ottestad (Robbie Williams), Jason Gilbert (Christina Aguilera), and Mike Green (Paramore).

  • "Pop singer Genevieve was the subject of a tug-of-war on the All Songs Considered SXSW preview show, and with good reason. All of us wanted to be the one to gift listeners with "Colors," the ebullient, unflappable anthem with which Genevieve closed her set tonight. Her unbridled enthusiasm was hardwired into every word and every movement. In a festival based in equal parts serendipity and logistical complexity, this song and performance were a potent reminder that joy can be wherever you look for it." - NPR
  • "Even with the contributions of so many different pop masterminds, this polished release still sounds cohesive and personal. Genevieve shows her range, from the resounding, fearless "Colors," to the echo-y electro-pop of "Human Again," to the mournful "For You" -- yet they all center around the singer's inspirational message. " - Billboard
  • "The second we laid eyes on Genevieve's flaming head of hair, we knew we had come across an exceptional being. Listening to her powerful voice and alternative pop sound on her breakout single "Colors" sealed the deal. We had a chance to sit down with the Chicago-born artist and hear about the personal journey music has taken her on, and we're not going to lie—we're inspired." - Teen Vogue
  • “With its abundance of vocal layers and a wildly energetic chorus, this song is a gleeful, unabashed pop stomp, while lyrically Genevieve guides listeners through themes of self-worth and you-do-you—which is of course, all too fitting for a girl taking a stab at solo stardom.” - Noisey
  • "Echoing harmonies and riveting percussion make her debut song release, 'Human Again', an anthem that we know will quickly become one of the top tracks of 2015 thus far. Reminiscent of Sia's booming choruses and Lorde's idiocyncratic harmonies, 'Human Again' bursts with self-awareness and confidence. It's empowering, but definitely not your run of the mill power ballad." - Nylon

On the EP, fans will uncover a staggering collection of stories that paint a vibrant portrait of the singer/songwriter, building from the simplistic beauty hidden amidst the everyday, like cross-country car rides, quiet libraries, airports, the ends of phone calls and the beginnings of movies: “I wanted a lot of imagery in the music, a blend of organic and synthetic elements, with colorful tones and textures." - Genevieve

As Genevieve’s songwriting and voice have expanded into a totally new realm, so has her sense that she is indeed changing into her next self. On Show Your Colors, you can hear the character of Genevieve emerging right before your ears, as a singer, as a woman, as a beacon of empowerment, and as an independent artist with a singular voice poised to change the musical landscape.
