March 11th, 2015 - New York, NY - Yebo Music in N. America has inked a deal with Malpas aka songwriter Ali M Forbes and producer Andy Savours. With plans for their first full-length album to be released this summer, the first single ‘Under Her Sails’ will be released April 27th. The track melds honeyed vocals with a densely textured backdrop of acoustic electronica, handclaps, synths and dreamy atmospherics that enrapture from the first listen. It has already made the UK's Amazing Radio 'Record of the Week' starting yesterday. The sound of Malpas combines the hushed melancholy of Nick Drake and the euphoric soundscapes of early Aphex Twin with a dollop of Tears For Fears pop ambition and Beta Band lo-fi scratchiness added in. Savours describes the collaboration: "We were attempting to capture a particular mood and atmosphere using a specific palette of sounds and reference points seemingly at odds with each other. Fusing unexpected elements together coherently is creatively challenging but hopefully it gave the music a unique character that's hard to categorize."

Malpas released their much lauded debut EP ‘Promise’ in November 2013 which won them fans across key blogs such as The 405, The Line of Best Fit, Music Ninja and Indie Shuffle.

'Promise’ quickly received over 50,000 listens on Soundcloud and lead track 'Charlemagne' was spun multiple times on BBC 6music, and Amazing Radio

For Andy, this is his first official venture out from behind the mixing desk, starting his career training under Alan Moulder and Flood at Assault and Battery, working on releases from The Horrors, Sigur Ros and The Killers before developing an impressive production resume of his own, making records with artists including The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, My Bloody Valentine and Cloud Boat. Andy elaborates on moving from behind the desk to the stage: "For me personally I felt that if I was going to attempt the transition from producer to artist I had to at least try to make music that was in some way original. I've always thought that when artists are trying something new in music (even if it's only new to them) the results have a vitality and honesty to them that can't be replicated. That's what we set out to achieve."

Malpas began as an experiment. The starting point was a few raw and creaky folk demos Ali recorded in an attic in Kings Heath, Birmingham, using loops of layered acoustic instruments and listing, low-key vocal melodies. Then began an email chain that ultimately formulated the Malpas sound. This cut-and-paste approach continued, each of the pair chopping and sampling the others contributions and using the limitations of the method as inspiration.

"Before we started we could imagine how the music would sound but had no idea how it would actually work. However, by sticking to our self-imposed rules and only pursuing those moments in the music that resonated with both of us we've made something we both find compelling. We hope other people agree."

With their debut album ready to drop this summer and a string of live dates and festival appearances scheduled, 2015 is looking like an exciting year for Malpas.
