For Andy Savours, this is his first official venture out from behind the mixing desk, starting his career training under Alan Moulder and Flood at Assault and Battery, working on releases from The Horrors, Sigur Ros and The Killers before developing an impressive production resume of his own, making records with artists including The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, My Bloody Valentine and Cloud Boat. Andy elaborates on moving from behind the desk to the stage: "For me personally I felt that if I was going to attempt the transition from producer to artist I had to at least try to make music that was in some way original. I've always thought that when artists are trying something new in music (even if it's only new to them) the results have a vitality and honesty to them that can't be replicated. That's what we set out to achieve."

Malpas began as an experiment. The starting point was a few raw and creaky folk demos Ali recorded in an attic in Kings Heath, Birmingham, using loops of layered acoustic instruments and listing, low-key vocal melodies. Then began an email chain that ultimately formulated the Malpas sound. This cut-and-paste approach continued, each of the pair chopping and sampling the others contributions and using the limitations of the method as inspiration.

With their debut album ready to drop this summer and a string of live dates and festival appearances scheduled, 2015 is looking like an exciting year for Malpas.
