An iron-lunged ingénue whose voice effuses theatricality at some moments and tenderness during others, Maisy’s shimmering, mezzo-soprano vocals, paired with intimate, pervasive confessionals make her the rarest of unicorns.

Maisy eschews the pop world’s tendency to recruit an arsenal of songwriters and only performs her own compositions. Many of them are penned daily around 3 a.m., her overactive mind waking her from slumber, willing her to write.

The self-taught pianist is a wise-beyond-her-years lyricist who crafts evocative avant pop. She’s a starry-eyed dreamer and songwriting phenom who’s as apt to reference Freddie Mercury as she is Celine Dion. She grew up in the English countryside but came of age in Los Angeles. She loves video games. She loves the theater. These types of antithetical influences only add to her beguiling appeal.

Maisy Kay knows who she is. You soon will too.

Today she shares her debut song “Blood Filled Tears” – via Black Book.

Poignant without being precious and sentimental without being saccharine, “Blood Filled Tears” explores a close friend’s suicide through a powerfully lilting lament.

"’Blood Filled Tears’ is an extremely personal and emotional song for me,” explains Maisy. “It came from an experience I went through with a friend, and my purpose for writing it, for almost everything I write, is in the hope that it could possibly touch someone else in need of help.  Someone in need of a message to get them through life, through a day, through an hour…"
