LOS ANGELES (July 6, 2015) Hot on the heels of a string of remarkable international tour dates including a spectacular performance at Londons Wembley Arena and a sold out stop at Tokyos famed Nippon Budokan superstar Idina Menzel will kick off the North American leg of her global tour, promoted by Live Nation, tomorrow, July 7, in Richmond, VA at the Altria Theater.
Beloved for bringing her irresistible charm, wit and unparalleled vocal prowess to venues across the world, Menzel will continue thrilling audiences in more than 35 cities across the country including New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Austin, Boston and Chicago before wrapping in Los Angeles on Oct. 3 at the Hollywood Bowl. The show will weave together classic pop, musical theatre favorites and her own personal catalogue all while creating the intimate environment Menzel has made her signature, even in the largest of venues.
Of her June 22 show in Birminghams Symphony Hall, The Times raves: Far from being rigidly choreographed Broadway entertainment, her shows have an aura of rock-chick spontaneity, while RTÉ TEN proclaimed Menzel as the hostess of the best sleepover in town during her debut performance in Irelands Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on June 20. From her opening number it was a trip through some of Broadways biggest hits and a masterclass in vocal delivery but the undeniable highlights came when she strayed from the Broadway standards, music critic John ODriscoll wrote. Her passion for performance and genial on stage banter would win over the biggest cynic she treated the audience like old friends.
Manila Standard Today hailed her performance standards nothing short of phenomenal following her debut appearance in the Philippines on June 7 at the Mall of Asia. Idina owned each and every person in the audience that night with her casual and witty spiels; the way she warmly regards her audience, on top of the power of her voice, Idina managed to endear herself to the Filipino audience.
Menzels global tour comes after a remarkable year-and-a-half that included performing the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLIX, singing the smash hit Let It Go from Disneys Frozen at the 86th annual Academy Awards, a triumphant return to Broadway in the musical If/Then, a Best Actress Tony Award nomination and a muchly-buzzed about performance on the 2014 CMA Country Christmas in support of her best-selling Christmas album Holiday Wishes, which debuted at #1 on Billboards Holiday Albums chart upon its October 2014 release. Menzel was honoured for her prolific year with the Billboard Breakthrough Artist of the Year award at their annual Billboard Women in Music Event in December 2014. Ticket information can be found at www.livenation.com and www.idinamenzel.com.
Menzel, the voice of Elsa in Disneys Frozen, made history as the first Tony Award winner for acting to have a song in the Billboard Top 10 when the films Oscar-winning and multi-platinum song Let it Go soared through the charts. Frozen has since gone on to become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.
