Cleveland-based multi-instrumentalist Marcus Alan Ward has premiered his new single "Devil In Popular Culture" with Myspace.com. The funk meets alt-rock track is a psychedelic commentary on the adverse effects of social media, oversharing, and surveillance. "I think it taps into an increasing paranoia and cultural unease that's present in 2016," says Ward. "Sonically, it's a healthy mix of soul, garage rock, electro and beyond. I had a lot of fun with this one." "Devil In Popular Culture" is Ward's second single released this year, following up the relaxing and soulful music video for "Little Sunshine." After receiving acclaim for his 2014 LP Last Night I Grew Tentacles on sites like The FADER, Ward decided to ditch the album format and focus on releasing each song separately, making it into a full experience. "Devil In Popular Culture" is available now on Spotify and iTunes. |

About Marcus Alan Ward: “Think Prince arm wrestling Frank Ocean after gobbling a handful of shrooms at a Moody Blues pool party, while D’Angelo spins the classics.” (Yo Teach – Mishka NYC) Combining the shape-shifting musicianship of Prince, the fiery electric blues guitar work of Hendrix, and the mysticism of Led Zeppelin, as well as many other more modern influences, Marcus Alan Ward creates a portal into the musical golden eras of the past while bravely forging ahead into the future. The self taught multi-instrumentalist and Cleveland, Ohio native spent his middle and high school days in and out of bands, later discovering and being exposed to jazz, soul, hip hop, electronic music, and more obscure sounds in college. After releasing a pair of EP’s under the initial “Freeze-Tag” moniker (2012’s WLDFLWR_HNY and 2013’s Eskimo) the artist released his debut full length album Last Night I Grew Tentacles via his own Long Division Recordings in August of 2014, under his own name. Ward says of the name change, “It really draws distinction to the fact that I’m a one man composer and that it’s just me, it’s more honest.” Toying with light electronic and alternative soul musings on his previous releases, Ward turns his attention to Psychedelic Pop, Rock, and Funk on his latest offerings. The only child continues to pursue honest artistic expression while keeping musicianship at the forefront. |
