South African pop-rock singer-songwriter Jesse Clegg is headed back to America, kicking off his second North American tour on March 17th in Birmingham, AL. This 33-date trek will take him through most major cities in the U.S. and Canada.
A star in his home country and one of South Africa’s premier rock musicians, the 27 year-old is distinguished as one of few to achieve Platinum success there. He now returns to America for the first time since his successful debut tour in 2014, and will perform songs from his first two albums When I Wake Up and Life On Mars, as well as his current international hits “Use Me”, “Souvenir" and other new material from his forthcoming album Things Unseen, which shows Jesse augmenting his sound by incorporating electronic and pop elements into the production.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Jesse is the offspring of iconic Afro-pop musician Johnny Clegg, whom he spent the first six years of his life on tour with. This readied Jesse for the life of a career musician, but he found his own musical path in the sounds of modern rock from the U.S. and the UK. Now touring America simultaneously, son and father will be sharing some of the dates on this tour.
After the widespread acclaim of his first album, 2008’s When I Wake Up, Jesse worked with three-time Grammy-winning producer David Bottrill (Muse, Tool, Placebo) who produced the follow-up Life on Mars. Recorded in Toronto and mastered by the legendary Bob Ludwig, the album was an even bigger success which spawned two Top Ten singles in South Africa.
In 2014 Jesse brought his music to the international stage, embarking on a seven week tour across the United States and Canada, and followed that up with a performance on the main stage at the UK’s Isle of Wight Festival.
2015 saw Jesse returning to the studio to record new material for his third studio album, titled Things Unseen which is being produced by SAMA-nominated Denholm Harding. The album’s first single “Use Me” was released in July and was an instant radio hit, topping the charts at several stations. It remained in the iTunes Top 40 for three months. The latest single “Souvenir" is currently impacting internationally.
Jesse has achieved much in the seven short years he has been active. He’s charted five Top 10 singles, toured extensively throughout South Africa playing the biggest festivals in the country, and has performed abroad in both Europe and North America. As an official ambassador for the Nelson Mandela 46664 foundation, Jesse was invited to play at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the annual Mandela Day Concert alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder, Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys and many others. He’s already been nominated for three South African Music Awards over the course of his career.
