Atlantic Records has announced this Friday’s release of “BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK),” available now at all DSPs: http://smarturl.it/Barbershop and streaming services: http://smarturl.it/StreamBarbershop. Barbershop: The Next Cut, a presentation of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and New Line Cinema, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM, arrives in theatres nationwide on Friday, April 15th.
“BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK)” is highlighted by a number of exclusive tracks including “Real People” by Ice Cube & Common. The track’s companion video premiered last week, earning acclaim from Rolling Stone for “(matching) the song's positive vibes with Ice Cube and Common preaching community, togetherness and an end to violence and the music that promotes it.” “Real People” “is a bit of a milestone for Cube and Common,” declared Rap-Up, “as their first collaboration since a vicious mid-’90s beef. After being friendly for years, the former foes finally decided to team up on a cut and, coincidentally, a film about cuts.” “Real People” is streaming now at the official Atlantic Records YouTube channel.
As if that weren’t enough, “BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK),” also features Atlantic Records signee Lizzo’s debut single “Good As Hell.” The track – available now at all DSP’s and streaming services – has fast received online love from a range of national outlets. “A slickly crafted piece of retro, self-loving lyricism,” declared SPIN, “meshes everything (Lizzo) does best into one powerful package.” “A massive new feel-good anthem,” raved The Line of Best Fit while Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current proclaimed, “If (‘Good As Hell’) is any indication of what’s ahead, Lizzo is quickly moving up the ranks of the indie hip-hop world and starting to crossover into mainstream pop.” “The soul-grooving, piano-driven song is (Lizzo’s) most radio-friendly yet,” applauded City Pages. “(‘Good As Hell’) reiterates her trademark messages of self-love and empowerment.”
“BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK),” also includes such classic tracks as Earth, Wind & Fire’s immortal “September,” The Jimmy Castor Bunch’s “It's Just Begun,” Aloe Blacc’s “Eyes Of A Child,” and Atlantic recording artist CeeLo Green’s “Working Class Heroes (Work)” (see attached tracklisting). The latter track – originally found on the GRAMMY® Award-winning Green’s 2015 Atlantic release, “HEART BLANCHE” – is joined by a new companion videostreaming now following its global preview on the nationally syndicated Access Hollywood.
“BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK)” was produced by Atlantic Records President of Film & TV and GRAMMY® Award winning soundtrack producer Kevin Weaver (Furious 7, Boardwalk Empire, The Fault In Our Stars, CREED, Girls Volumes 1 & 2, True Blood Volumes 1 & 2) alongside executive producer & director of Barbershop: The Next Cut - Malcolm D. ABOUT BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT: Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer are reunited in Barbershop: The Next Cut, directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man films, Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins).
It’s been more than 10 years since our last appointment at Calvin’s Barbershop. Calvin (Ice Cube) and his longtime crew, including Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer), are still there, but the shop has undergone some major changes. Most noticeably, our once male-dominated sanctuary is now co-ed. The ladies bring their own flavor, drama and gossip to the shop challenging the fellas at every turn. Despite the good times and camaraderie within the shop, the surrounding community has taken a turn for the worse, forcing Calvin and our crew to come together to not only save the shop, but their neighborhood.
Barbershop: The Next Cut also stars Regina Hall (Think Like a Man), Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), Eve (Whip It), and JB Smoove (The Millers), with Oscar winner Common (Best Song, Selma), and Nicki Minaj (The Other Woman).
Lee directed the film from a screenplay by Kenya Barris (Black-ish) & Tracy Oliver (The Neighbors), based on characters created by Mark Brown. Barbershop: The Next Cut reteams the producers from the first two films, by Robert Teitel, p.g.a George L. Tillman Jr., p.g.a. and Ice Cube, p.g.a. Malcolm D. Lee, Becki Cross Trujillo, Ronald G. Muhammed and Jeff Kwatinetz are serving as executive producers. Greg Gardiner is the director of photography; Paul Millspuagh, the editor; Ina Mayhew, the production designer; and Danielle Hollowell, the costume designer. Music Supervisor is Gabe Hilfer with music by Stanley Clarke.
Opening nationwide April 15, 2016, Barbershop: The Next Cut, is a presentation of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and New Line Cinema, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures. Rated PG-13.
