NEWS: WIZ KHALIFA LIGHTS UP BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS
“See You Again,” the worldwide #1 single by Rostrum/Taylor Gang/Atlantic recording artist Wiz Khalifa (Feat. Charlie Puth), was honored with two top prizes at last night’s Billboard Music Awards. The epochal hit – found on Atlantic Records’ “FURIOUS 7: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK,” the official musical companion to Universal’s record-breaking action-thriller – was named “Top Hot 100 Song” and “Top Rap Song.” Billboard Music Awards winners are based on United States year-end chart performance according to Nielsen data for sales, number of downloads and total airplay.
Featured in FURIOUS 7’s touching closing tribute to the late Paul Walker, “See You Again” has officially entered the history books as one of the decade’s biggest singles, topping Billboard’s “Hot 100” for a stunning 12 weeks to tie the record set by Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” for a rap single’s longest run atop the chart. Now certified 4x platinum by the RIAA, “See You Again” also reached #1 on a number of additional charts, standing atop both Billboard’s “Hot Rap Songs” and “Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs” for an amazing 14 weeks each.
“See You Again,” by Wiz Khalifa (Feat. Charlie Puth)” is indeed a planetary phenomenon, with combined sales and track-equivalent streams in excess of 20.9 million units worldwide – Earth’s best-selling song of 2015. Furthermore, the song’s deeply touching companion video is now exceeding 1.7 billion individual views at Wiz Khalifa’s official YouTube channel – the first ever hip hop video to achieve the billion view milestone and YouTube’s third most popular video of all time.
“See You Again” has collected a long list of awards and honors in addition to its unprecedented popularity. Along with its dual Billboard Music Awards triumph, the song has been feted with the 2015 Critic’s Choice Award for “Best Song,” the 2015 Hollywood Film Award for “Hollywood Song Award,” a pair of 2015 Teen Choice Awards, three GRAMMY® Award nominations, two 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominations, two 2015 American Music Awards nominations, and a 73rd Golden Globes Award nod as “Best Original Song.”
Wiz Khalifa’s acclaimed new project, “KHALIFA,” arrived at #6 on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 upon its release earlier this year and features tracks “Zoney” and the top 20 rap hit, “Bake Sale (Feat. Travi$ Scott).” The multiple award winning artist is working on his newest studio album, due out later this year.
