Electronic / rock pioneers THE ALBUM LEAF have just premiered a full stream of their forthcoming studio effort Between Waves ahead of its release via Relapse next Friday, August 26. Between Waves, the project's sixth full-length album, has premiered via NPR, who commented, "The Album Leaf has slowly grown into a rapturously meditative act, capable of zero-gravity drift and sky-scraping melody... Like the tide, the record swells from one state to the next, building and dissipating in sequences of soft pulses and washes of blissful oblivion. The mood may shift — sometimes shadowy and pensive, sometimes luminous and euphoric — but Between Waves gently maintains its persistent, consuming lull."
Listen to Between Waves in its entirety now at this location.
Twenty years into a career that has seen Jimmy LaValle exercising his creativity across the realms of film scoring, sound collage, and rock music, via instrumental and vocal-driven compositions alike, LaValle & THE ALBUM LEAF’s newly solidified lineup are poised to deliver yet another sonic triumph with 2016’s Between Waves. The album displays multifaceted, meticulous sound design, a keen ear for balancing disparate influences, and the strongest senses of dynamics, rhythm, and composition THE ALBUM LEAF has displayed to date. From the moody evolution of "Glimmering Lights" to the wistful hip-hop stylings of "A New Soul" and beyond,Between Waves is THE ALBUM LEAF at its most inventive, most confident, and most impressive.
Between Waves is set for release on August 26, 2016 via Relapse Records on CD/LP/DLX 2xLP/Digital. Physical pre-orders can be found at this location and digital pre-orders are available via THE ALBUM LEAF's Bandcamp page here. New Soul is also available on white 7" vinyl via The Album Leaf's store at this location.
The band has also just announced a new run of European tour dates kicking off this October. Additionally, THE ALBUM LEAF will be embarking on a US tour kicking this September in support of the new album, and will also make a week-long trek of dates along the West Coast in December. Rituals of Mine (formerly Sister Crayon) will support on all dates; a full itinerary for both Europe and the US is available below.
