Written and recorded across the globe – New York, Boston, Moscow, Mexico, and British Columbia – The Grey Notebook EP is a five track collection featuring acclaimed singles “Andre” ft. Josh Jacobson and “Never The Same” ft. Khai.  As Samuel puts it “the story is always the most important, but there isn't only one way to tell it, it doesn't have to be cohesive in the normative sense”. Although each track on The Grey Notebook possesses its own story sonically, lyrically, and visually, there exists a connection that brings everything to life as if in chapters of a book.

Samuel Proffitt’s musical focus began early on with songwriting and poetry, which further fueled an obsession with storytelling as intensified by heavy background in Russian literature and philosophy. His world, riddled with allusions to Gogol, Bulgakov, Vvedensky, and Kharms, is inflamed by the continually blurred boundary between dreams and reality.

Following the release of his debut Blue Notebook No. 10 EP in 2015, fans and critics alike can expect more exquisite sonics to surface in the not too distant future.  Stay tuned!

“Writing “Drown” was a difficult process,” explains Proffitt. “It’s the only song I’ve ever  written starting with vocals or lyrics, but I fell in love with SKYLR’s voice and lyrics and had to use them. It was a challenge to make someone else’s thoughts reflect my own, distorting and twisting the meaning to create something completely new. I wanted to take this someplace darker, to a place close to my heart. I envisioned myself sitting on the train in St. Petersburg with my headphones on processing the day’s events, withdrawn in my own world, which is why I began the song with a field recording from the metro in Moscow."
