Both Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley describe Backstreet Boys as an important early influence. With the iconic ‘90s boy band lending harmony vocals, “God, Your Mama, And Me” is a lush sonic tapestry of unconditional love and spirituality with themes reminiscent of the tender romance found on “H.O.L.Y.”
“Gotta take it all the way back to sixth grade. My first concert at the House of Blues in Orlando, Florida, was … Backstreet Boys,” admitted Kelley of this full circle moment. “We’ve been digging our roots and influences, and paying homage to what’s gotten us here. When I first heard it, it sounded like a modern-day Backstreet Boys song. We got to know Nick (Carter) and the boys really well and are blessed to have them on this track.”
“Well, this makes a lot of sense why we are a duo,” explained Hubbard. “I was also in the sixth grade and remember going to the record store to buy my first CD … Backstreet Boys!”
Co-written by Josh Kear, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson, “God, Your Mama, And Me” is the third single from FGL’s 2016 DIG YOUR ROOTS album. The project has already produced back-to-back #1s with the 2X PLATINUM-certified “H.O.L.Y.” (which spent an incredible 18 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart) and GOLD-certified “May We All” (featuring Tim McGraw). To date, the duo has notched 12 chart-topping singles.
A new music video featuring Backstreet Boys was recently filmed and will be released soon.
Meanwhile, the first run in 2017 of FGL’s colossal DIG YOUR ROOTS TOUR is set to get underway January 27 in Tallahassee, Florida. With special guests DUSTIN LYNCH and CHRIS LANE along for the ride, select dates will also include newcomers RYAN FOLLESE, SETH ENNIS and MORGAN WALLEN.
More than 25 shows have already been revealed through May 6. The tour will crisscross North America with stops from Houston, Texas, to Quebec, Canada, and everywhere in between.
Since introducing their breakout vibes in 2012, FGL has earned prestigious honors from the AMA, ACM Awards, CMA Awards, Billboard Music Awards and CMT. Their previous BMLG Records releases – 2X PLATINUM debut HERE’S TO THE GOOD TIMES and PLATINUM ANYTHING GOES – have attributed to sales surpassing 26 million tracks and more than 3.5 million albums worldwide. With their massive debut, FGL’s “Cruise” is the only country single to ever be certified DIAMOND for sales exceeding 10 million copies and overtook the record for longest #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
