Up and coming Nashville-based pop songstress Brit Daniels recently debuted her new single and breakup anthem, "Eulogy."  According to a recent press release: "Brit Daniels intertwines energetic pop with vibrant elements of rock and EDM to create a sound that completely encompasses everything about her. Born and raised just outside of Dallas, TX, her talent was solidified at the ripe old age of two when her mother caught her belting out Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in their backyard."  We had the opportunity to get 10 Quick Ones from Daniels and you can read all about it here...

My latest release is my single called “Eulogy” & I also released a really awesome lyric video to go along with it! I think when most people hear this song at first, it automatically comes off as a really powerful break up anthem, as well as just a fun song to listen to in general. However, if you listen a lot deeper the song is really about being okay with having to let people go when they’re not treating you how you deserve to be treated. I love this song so much because I feel like it encompasses empowerment and strength & it’s so relatable on so many levels. I also love how it has a dark feel to it, but it has a positive underlying message. There’s not really any hidden nuggets in this song - it’s pretty straight forward for the most part, but there’s some really cool elements to the production that really get me into the song from another angle rather than the lyrics, and I love those elements so much because they add so much more to the whole picture for me!

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I don’t think there was ever an epiphany-esque moment where I realized that I wanted to be a musician. Music has been a part of my life for literally forever. My mom told me that when I was in the womb, she used to put headphones on her belly every night in hopes that I would come out having a natural love for music. She also told me that the moment she knew I could carry a tune was when she caught me belting out “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” in the backyard when I was 2, and that from that moment, she really tried to nourish my love for music. I have never known a time where I wasn’t doing music. I’m just grateful that I have supportive people around me who have always encouraged me to pursue my passion.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

I would have to say my main five musical influences would have to be Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Hayley Williams, Daya and Halsey. I love all of these artists so much, and I love how different they all are musically.  However, I hear pieces of each on of them in my music - plus, they’re some of the artists I listen to most, so I feel like it’s natural to gravitate towards what you listen to and surround yourself with.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

I’d definitely have to say Max Martin! He’s had his hands in so many different types of productions, and he’s been a part of creating so many hits! Not only would I want to work with him because of his success & talent, but I think I could just learn so much by being around someone with his incredible creative abilities.

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

I’ve been describing my music a lot lately as having Pop, Rock and EDM influences all mixed into one. I think it can appeal to a lot of different people who like different styles. I’d say it’s kind of “power pop” because there’s a lot of powerful elements in the production that keep it from being your typical pop song, but it definitely still falls into the pop category stylistically.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

Honestly, this might sound a little cliche, but my favorite thing about being a musician is having an outlet to express myself. Whenever I’m going through something, I’ll literally sit in my room and just write out how I feel, and then lyrics start coming to me. I start piecing things together and sometimes, if I like where what I’m writing is going, I’ll take it into a cowrite and finish it with someone else - I always love getting other people’s insight into an idea. Another great thing about being a musician is that I get to surround myself with so many talented people!

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

This question doesn’t really apply to me because I’m a solo artist - I play with a full band for some shows, but it might not always the same people.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

If I wasn’t a musician, I’d 100 percent still want to work in the industry on the label side. I’ve gotten a little experience on that side and I still loved it. I think whatever I do I’d want to still work in music, and be around music.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

I’d have to say no! I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. Every business deal, every person I’ve worked with, every decision, etc. has led me to exactly where I am right now. I’m truly at a point in my life and my career where I feel as if I know myself better than I ever have before, and it’s my experiences that have brought me to this point. So I’m thankful for anything that didn’t seem ideal at the time, but now I can truly look back and say that I don’t really regret anything. I’m happy to be where I am at, I’m thankful for everything I’ve learned, and I’m excited to continue pushing forward.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Oh man, this is actually a really hard question because there are so many incredible records that I would have loved to have been in the room for, but most of the amazing artists just kept putting out killer record after killer record back then, so I feel like I’m going to have to resonate more the person rather than just the actual record itself because there’s just too many for me to choose! If I could go back in time, I’d love to be able to sit in on any of Whitney Houston’s sessions. I just love her and her music so much, and it would be insane to hear that voice in the studio. I’d definitely have loved to have been a fly on that wall. Plus, I think it would be have been cool to see what the recording process was like back then for her and to see how it’s changed compared to how artists do things now.
