According to a recent press release: "Avant-Pop artist Maisy Kay has released the official video for her single "Enough" with a premiere on Paste Magazine. In the video, the LA-via-UK singer faces off against the reflections of inner demons, representing the internal critics that all of us, and most especially artists, struggle against."  With "Enough" fresh on the air and video waves, we get Maisy Kay to answer our 10 Quick Ones about the new track and much more...

1. Tell us a little about your latest release. What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through? Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

My latest release was my music video for my song "Enough". I think something that not many people pick up on the first time round, is the song isn't about being "enough" for someone else. It's truly about the battle with self-acceptance, which the video shows with the different personas. There's no hidden nuggets as such, but I will say, when you see the hand going through the smoke in the second verse (around 1.55) that's not my hand!! You can tell because I used to be an avid nail biter, and that hand has some pretty serious nails!

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I've always been singing, ever since I was a little girl, I would dress up as a Disney princess and sing songs to my dogs. However, I think the moment I truly realized I wanted to get into music as a profession, was the first time I watched the musical Phantom Of The Opera. That whole play was so well put together, I knew I had to sing as Christine at some point in my life. As I grew older I developed an appreciation for Webber's writing, and I've been writing and performing ever since.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

Freddie Mercury, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand and Adele. I love dramatic and powerful voices like Celine, Freddie's range and stage performance was mesmerizing, and I admire Adele's ability to write such emotional and beautiful lyrics, they always resonate with me long after her records have finished.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

That's a tough one. It would probably have to be Imogen Heap. I loved her latest album, Sparks. I thought the production both musically and vocally was very impressive. That being said, I would always love to sing a chorus on an Eminem track!

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

I'd say it's a mix of alternative and avant-garde pop, although a lot of it consists of sad piano ballads! I'd also say it has a dark and dramatic flair, probably due to me growing up with musical theatre.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

The best thing about being a musician to me, is probably being able to express myself so freely, and watching the growth of a song. Getting to be a part of the whole process, starting from a verse idea, or a couple piano chords, to writing the words, to singing it all, to adding instrumentation, and getting to sit back and listen to the finished product, there's nothing like it.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is the first to crack out acoustic guitars for a singalong?

So we've yet to go on tour, which is normally when we figure all this out, however, so far at rehearsals, I think we all like to spontaneously burst into song every now and then. It's important to have a healthy balance between working and down time. Also, when we do go on tour, it definitely won't be me who cooks, as I don't think the bus needs to be burned down...

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

I would've really liked to work with animals in some sort of wildlife preserve, I actually still hope to do that one day once I've retired from music. There's a particular sanctuary in South Africa that focuses on big cats, I would love to be able to be a part of that.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you fell was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”? If so, please tell us about that.

Honestly, no. Sure, there are some small decisions that maybe you regret in the moment, but looking back on everything, every decision and opportunity I chose helped get me to where I am now, and I feel every mistake helps with my own personal growth, both as an artist and a person.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose - and what does that record mean to you?

Definitely "Bohemian Rhapsody." I think that record was life changing. Nothing like it ever went to radio before, I mean the song itself was almost 6 minutes long, which is practically unheard of for radio. It was revolutionary, everything about that song was finessed to a point, from the guitar solos, to the many harmonies. It was so different and exciting, and I would've loved to see what was going on through Freddie's mind through that whole recording process.
