Frontman Zeeshan Zaidi told Impose Magazine, "The video was born out of a very personal moment - the passing of my grandmother last summer, just a few months before my wife and I were expecting our second child." The contrasting emotions inspired an emotional song and a mesmerizing video. Created by indie filmmaker Mount Emult (Fountains of Wayne, Pixies, Panda Bear) and featuring bright blue kaleidoscopic graphics and animation, the visuals focus on the connecting piece between two of the most important people in Zaidi's life: "We tried to explore the cycle of life-birth and death and the places they intersect."

The Commuters, consisting of Zaidi (vocals,guitar/keyboard), Uri Djemal (guitar/keyboard), Ben Zwerin (bass), and Paul Amorese (drums), might hail from New York, but their kinetic, personal anthems capture an alt-rock essence that aspires toward worldwide appeal. Their 2012 debut, Rescue, earned the band accolades and exposure from outlets as wide-reaching and influential as college radio, mtvU, PureVolume and Guitar World. But more importantly, it spoke to listeners in a direct, uncomplicated way that created a devoted worldwide audience thanks to the band's songs being equal parts melody and honesty.

The support of that worldwide audience was evident from Before I Was Born's release - The projectdebuted at #34 on the Billboard Alternative New Artist Album Chart and hit #13 on the FMQB Submodern Radio chart this past month.  Zaidi's songwriting on Before I Was Born reflects the band's continued desire to move as many people as possible with their music. He fuses together longtime influences such as David Bowie and Peter Gabriel with modern progressive artists such as The Killers and Bon Iver to create intriguing, engaging rock songs that are destined to connect with you on a visceral level.

"Before I Was Born" is the title track of The Commuters latest EP, released via Communal Records in 2016.
