"Cicada Arcade" is easily our most ambitious song to date.  We aren’t sure that our die-hard fans will really even know what to make of it.  At first, we had trouble wrapping our heads around what we trying to accomplish creatively. It’s a stranger combination of Dick Dale’s surf rock, Reggae, hip hop, rock n roll, and a little bit of Middle Eastern flair. We were trying to push ourselves out of our comfort zone on this album, and this song represents that endeavour.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

Phil:  Chicago House music got me into music.  My first experience was creating my own house remixes on my dad’s double cassette player. But it wasn’t until seventh grade, when I performed for my school’s talent show that I knew I wanted to be on stage everyday for the rest of my life.

Colin: Some of my earliest memories revolve around music.  My uncle taking me to Chicago Blues Fest as a kid, and singing along to Del Shannon’s “Runaway” in the car with my dad.  Then I met Mike and Phil, and joined their band.  The first time I played on stage with them I knew I had to do it forever.

Brad: I owe my interests in music to my parents. Both my mom and dad were musically.  Growing up in my house they were always instruments around for me to pick up and play: Drums, Piano, guitars.  I became interested in playing music at a very young age, and was very lucky to have parents who encouraged it.

Mike: I remember watching Michael Jackson on TV when I was a kid, I used to study his performance and try to emulate his dance moves.  Finding heavy metal in grade school inspired me to pick up the guitar.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

We have many influences as a band, ranging from the Beatles to Cannibal Corpse, from Johnny Cash to Bone Thugz n’ Harmony, and everything in between. We aren’t looking to sound like any particular band, and we end up pulling from all styles of music to create our own sound.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

Musically, we would love to work with Casey Crescenzo of The Dear Hunter.  He is an incredibly talented songwriter, composer and musician; it would be an honour to work on a project with him. Visually, we would love to have Paul Thomas Anderson direct a music video for us.

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

Heavy but not metal, catchy but not pop, groovy but not disco.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

Being able to take an idea, and turn into a song, and then performing it live and getting a reaction from the audience.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

Brad and Colin cook, while Phil and Mike quote 90’s movies and crack jokes.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

Phil: Film Director, I have always been enamoured with the process of making a movie, and have done some directing myself.  I have written/directed couple of short films, as well as music videos for Bubbles and other artists.

Mike: I have a degree in audio production, and have worked on many audio projects. I also recorded and edited this album.  I would also love to score films.

Brad: I love to cook in my spare time, so I would say a chef.

Colin: Lawyer, I wouldn’t say I like to argue, but I certainly am not afraid of a good debate.  I also am fascinated with the law and it’s interpretation.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

We try not to focus on past mistakes; we believe they are just a part of the whole creative process. We mainly try to focus on the future and the possibilities ahead.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

The recording sessions for Jurassic Park composed and conducted by the master himself John Williams.  That movie is near and dear to all of our hearts, and the music is iconic.  We bet the main theme is playing in your head right now.  That’s the impact we want our music to make.
