Our debut album Always Lose comes out July 14th and it's an emotional rollercoaster. It's laced with a strong theme of hope throughout and I can't wait for people to hear it as a complete piece. There's some really nice touches in the artwork that I think a few people will love, but that'll be revealed when it's out.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

Funnily enough, I was kinda bullied into music. It's a long story but it involves a young version of me, a walkman CD player and Craig David haha. The first time I realised I wanted to be in a band though, was after hearing Something Corporate. The beauty in the lyrics and the passion that was put into the shows, it just sang to me in a way that nothing ever has before.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

We draw inspiration from a bunch of different people as a band, from Periphery to Michael Bolton, so it's fairly diverse amongst us. I think as a band though, it's fair to say Jimmy Eat World, Fall Out Boy and Brand New play a huge part of it.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

Justin Timberlake, without a doubt. The guy is a machine. Failing that, I'd love to do a track with Adam Duritz from Counting Crows, he's an incredible musician who always throws in so much heart into what he does.

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

Everyone takes away something different from our band. I guess I'd say it's emotional pop rock but with a lot of soul.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

Being able to play our songs to people and see them react in such a positive way. Knowing that it helps them to find release and hope.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

I'm definitely the cook. I used to chef so it's just what I enjoy doing for everyone. You'll be very hard-pressed to find Kurtis, not with a beer in his hand haha so that's his accolade. Kev's usually the one who'll bust out the earth, wind and fire on the guitar. He's a guitar teacher so his catalogue of songs is ridiculous.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

Something within music. I absolutely love merch, so probably that. The band call me a bit of a merch snob because I always get so anal about it all being perfect haha. I just appreciate it!

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

We had a pretty bad stint at the beginning of our career with members. They're all great guys, but for one reason or another, it just didn't work out and it really set us back. That being said, we managed to find our way to our current line up now and we're all so stoked on everything so y'know, these things happen for a reason!

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Any of the live Stevie Wonder recordings. Just being in a room with such incredible musicians would be insane. It would've been reel to reel recording as well so just watching the perfection and rawness in each take would be inspiring.
