The band has teamed up with Revolver to share the very first taste of music from the album by premiering the song "Haunt Me." Additionally, To Speak of Wolves will spend the weeks leading up to the album's release and beyond on the Hot Like Sauce Tour with He Is Legend, Islander, and Bad Seed Rising." We get drummer Phil Chamberlain to answer our 10 Quick Ones about the new release, his influences, and more...

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

Our latest release is called Dead in the Shadow and it comes out July 21st 2017 via Solid State Records. On first listen someone may not realize all the layers and sounds we have going on throughout the entire album. We wanted to create something that was heavy dark and suffocating. I think we accomplished that - there’s a lot going on with every track.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

The first time I heard "Moby Dick" on Led Zeppelin II I knew I wanted to play drums. I was fortunate that my parents heard me and got me a kit for Christmas in the 6th grade.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

Man first off it would have to be John Bonham he is my absolute favorite drummer and the second tattoo I ever got was a tribute to him. Second would be Dave Grohl. I absolutely love Nirvana and the Foo Fighters. I take any chance I can get to read or watch any interviews with him because he has such a great passion and appreciation for the world of music. Danny Carey of Tool is also a huge influence of mine. The dude is a monster behind the kit and I’ve spent way too many hours air drumming all the crazy Tool parts in my kitchen with friends super late at night haha. Thomas Pridgen and Jon Theodore are both huge influences of mine. They both have played in one of my all time favorite bands - The Mars Volta. While they both have different styles their playing has definitely had an impact on my drumming and appreciation of the music they’ve created in general.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

Dave Grohl - I mean come on how insane would that be haha.

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

Grunge meets heavy rock n roll and metal. I never know what to say to this question haha.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

My favorite thing is traveling and meeting new people with my best friends in the world. There’s something about that feeling when you’re riding through the desert one night and a few nights later looking at the ocean or the Rocky Mountains. It’s surreal.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

I’d say Seth is probably the most likely to start cooking. We like to grill out so we take that opportunity every chance we can get. We all like to get the drinks in from time to time and I honestly don’t know that we ever have broken out an acoustic for a singalong. We do regularly put on music and make up our own lyrics and act like idiots pretty often.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

I actually have a day job that I enjoy where I make websites for businesses and work closely with labels and managers on marketing plans for various album releases.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?  If so, please tell us about that.

I’d like to say that taking a hiatus was a misstep for us but in hindsight I think it was necessary. We all grew a lot individually and it greatly affected our music and friendships in a positive way. Always look forward. I regret nothing.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

I’d go back and listen in on Led Zeppelin II. It was the record that started it all for me. I can’t imagine what that would have been like back in the day before computers could fix anything. You had to be the best of the best and those dudes were.
