LOS ANGELES, CA — “Knock You Out” (Hysteria/Positiva), the anthemic new single from pioneering EDM act Bingo Players, is available for purchase now on iTunes. Bingo Players debuted the track last month at the first-ever Remembrance Festival in Miami.A portion of the proceeds from that concert have been donated to KWF (Dutch Cancer Society) and the American Cancer Society in honor of Bingo Players’ co-founder Paul Bäumer, who died of cancer last December.
The “Knock You Out” video centered around a powerhouse vocal by Kim Viera, premiered on Idolator.com and is “an incredibly special song, as it was one of the songs Paul and I worked on together before he passed away,” said Bingo Players’ Maarten Hoogstraten. It builds with subtle instrumentation before a euphoric, charging synth-line leads into a stunning crescendo that typifies the bold, dance floor inspired approach Bingo Players have taken since they first established their Hysteria label in 2010. Director Lucy Luscombe says of the video, “I was more than excited to receive such a brave brief from Bingo Players along with a song that resonates with a younger generation, and lets you discuss it with conviction; to be visceral and real. I believe these characters are underrepresented within mainstream media yet they exist so fully in the real world.” Maarten chimes in, “I think everyone can relate to her struggles in one form or another and know that deep down we are stronger than we might think.” Adds Luscombe, “abusive relationships come in all shapes and forms and are closer to home than you'd expect. I hope new and old Bingo Players fans find the track and video both exciting and empowering.”
Bingo Players emerged from the Dutch house scene with the breakout 2011 hit “Cry (Just a Little),” which featured a re-recording of the hook from a 1988 Brenda Russell song, “Piano in the Dark.” With the memorable lyric looping around an ebullient melody, it quickly topped the Beatport charts and became an instant crossover hit. It was sampled on Flo Rida’s 2012 Top 10 single “I Cry.” Bingo Players’ follow-up single, “Out Of My Mind,” also hit No. 1 on the Beatport charts in its first week of release.
In 2013, they collaborated with Far East Movement on an updated version of the 2011 Bingo Players’ track, “Rattle,” titled “Get Up (Rattle).” It debuted at No. 1 in the UK and charted in the Top 10 around the world. “Get Up (Rattle)” sold more than 200,000 units in the U.S., where it reached No. 5 on the dance charts. It is certified double Platinum in Australia and Gold in Canada. The accompanying video, which featured ducks squaring off against hoodlums, has racked up more than 50 million views. But at the height of Bingo Players’ success, Paul suddenly fell ill and was diagnosed with cancer.
“He always said to me, 'If you can find solace and continue what we started, please do so. Please continue the music. Carry on the Bingo Players flag,’” recalled Maarten, who wasn’t certain he could do so after his friend’s death. “I took some time off to clear my head and think about things. And I realized that Paul was right. I should continue the name and continue his legacy.”
“Knock You Out,” marks the first release by Bingo Players on UK-based dance label Positiva, through its announced partnership with Priority Records/Capitol Music Group for U.S. releases. Maarten adds “I appreciate all for the support so far with this record. It means the world to know you are with me in the new chapter of our journey together. Thank you!”
