On the heels of their return from a national tour, irreverent alt-country quintet El Campo have returned to bring another taste of their unique style and vision to life. Having released their Skinny Kids/Sloe-Eyed EP earlier this year, the group have now unleashed the cinematic counterpart to EP cut “Spanish Revival” and shared how it all came together.

Directed by Lawrence Mercado, Jerid Reed Morris, the band’s chief songwriter, tells of how the collaboration began as he “told Lawrence just to do whatever he wanted with it, since I trusted his goofy sense of humor and off-kilter ideas, and in the end he came through with exactly that.” Meanwhile, Mercado instantly developed the concept and shot the video in five hours, editing in just a day. With writing, directing and special effects makeup by Mercado, cinematography by Ian Holliday, production by Ariel Vida and Julian Curi as the featured alien, the lightning fast process worked in the crew’s favor.

The “Spanish Revival” video premiered with ovrld and is available HERE!

Driven by their down-home flair and enlightened songwriting chops, El Campo’s recent 7” double A-side will offer a hint of what’s on the horizon for the Texas crew. Composed of singer-songwriter guitarist Jerid Reed Morris, pedal-steel player and singer Nick Richman, Bulls fan and banjo-picker extraordinaire Zach Almaguer, drummer and taco aficionado Rodolfo Villareal III and bassist Charlie Cruz, the quintet split their time between the Austin and San Antonio, and spend their time touring, recording, and remembering all day the precious Alamo. Check out upcoming Texas dates below and be on the lookout for more from El Campo!
