According to a recent press release: "Japanese rock band VAMPS—featuring HYDE (L’Arc-en-Ciel) and K.A.Z (Oblivion Dust)—have today unveiled the next single “CALLING” off their highly anticipated, forthcoming album UNDERWORLD, out April 28 on Eleven Seven Music. Newly signed to Eleven Seven Music for the world (excluding South America, Southeast Asia, and Japan), this is the band’s first release through the label. “Calling” is available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music, and can be purchased on iTunes. It will be on sale everywhere on April 7." We get HYDE to answer our 10 Quick Ones about the bands most recent new material and more...
We created this album specifically to target the American audience. We've always wanted to create something like this, so we'd like everyone to hear it. This album is so different from everything that we've released thus far, so I'm sure there will be a few fans who may not like it but, we are confident in our music so we'd like you guys to give it a listen first.
2. What initially got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realised you wanted to be a musician?
I was about 17 or 18 years old. At first, even though I was born with a slight colorblindness, I wanted to become a painter, however when I discovered music I felt like the future opened up right in front of me.
3. Who are your five biggest musical influences?
Motley Crue, Depeche Mode, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, and Christ
4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?
Maria Brink from In this Moment.
5. How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to it before?
Vampire’s rock
6. What initially made you want to become a musician?
I wanted to be able to attract girls.
7. What’s it like when the band is hanging out together?
Drinking together. It doesn't matter where or how cheap alcohol is, it's fun no matter what!
8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?
I would probably be making art or tableware... definitely creating something.
9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?
There was a mountain of those in the past, but going back to re-do all of them is just annoying. Changing the past affects how the future turns out.
10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?
Jesus Christ. I think that our record would sell quite well.
